Collaboration is critical to the success of creating public awareness of the profession. You know the stats on workforce shortage, you understand how PAMA cuts are exacerbating the crisis in laboratory reimbursement, and you may also have met those in our field that are tired of feeling like an afterthought amongst other care teams. We have a chance to raise our voice by being an engaged member of an organization, contacting our legislators, and making others curious about the life saving science we perform in the blood bank, microbiology, toxicology, chemistry, hematology, and many other fields.
Every month, I co-host the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Off The Bench podcast. Released on the last Friday of the month, we cover a broad range of topics to help educate and entertain those in the Medical Laboratory Science field. The podcast is hosted on all platforms where you prefer to listen - Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts. Access the full list of episodes directly on the ASCLS Off The Bench website.
It all started with the ASCLS National Leadership Academy, when a group of 11 talented Medical Laboratory Science leaders from around the country (and Puerto Rico!) gathered their forces on a project to raise awareness of the profession. We haven't looked back since.
